can be used for alternative, pro-social purposes.

Towards this end, AI can serve a critical role in the creation of civic media. Scholars Eric Gordon and Paul Mihailidis define this sphere of creative endeavor as the “technologies, designs, and practices that produce and reproduce the sense of being in the world with others toward a common good.”

This kind of civic media can offer insights on the threat and consequences of deepfakes,
as well as constitute new forms of socially engaged art that facilitate
new relationships between people and communities.
